Last year, the all new Acura TSX was introduced, a handsome sedan offering sporty styling, clean lines and a bold look. Now, Honda's upscale brand is following up the TSX's introduction with a second model, this one powered by a lively V6 engine. Whereas the original model appealed more to the person concerned about fuel economy, the new model also offers fuel efficiency combined with raw power.
A powerful 3.5-liter V6 engine, exclusive suspension tuning and larger diameter wheels are some of the important new features for the TSX, to provide a uniform package of refinement and fun to drive exhilaration.
"The automotive market may be slowing down, but not Acura," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "With improved acceleration and handling, the new 280 horsepower V-6 adds even more sport to the already sporty nature of the popular TSX sports sedan."
Acura says that the new TSX powertrain choice means performance luxury buyers will be able to enjoy a 280 horsepower 3.5L V-6, with sophisticated VTEC(R) valve train control and a dual-stage induction system. To bring about maximum performance and efficiency, the engine will be coupled to Acura's Sequential SportShift automatic transmission, with smart features such as Grade Logic Control and Shift Hold Control. Upon driver demand, the Sequential SportShift transmission can also be operated manually, via steering-wheel mounted F1(R)-style paddle shifters.
Another feature sure to please Acura aficionados is the TSX's cutting edge, double-wishbone front and multi link rear suspension system which have been engineered to provide excellent ride, handling and control. To bring forth sportier handling, the V-6 model will also use exclusive suspension tuning along with 18-inch split five-spoke aluminum wheels, fit with Michelin Pilot all-season tires. The larger wheels and tires will help distinguish this performance- minded TSX from the standard model, as does the slightly revised front fascia and a V-6 badge on the trunk.
On the inside, the new TSX will feature an uncommon level of standard equipment, including leather-appointed interior, power moon roof, automatic climate control, a premium seven-speaker sound system with CD, AM/FM tuner, XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth HandsFreeLink , USB port and AUX jack music interface and more.
Acura hasn't released pricing information on its top of the line TSX model just yet. Expect that information to be shared just ahead of its Summer 2009 release date.

When the 2010 Ford Taurus does show up, it will be slightly larger, better appointed and much more attractive than the Taurus it will replace. Already, critics are saying that the next generation Taurus will go far to revive the mystique of the near 25 year old brand, but in a car that is truly a full size sedan.
With the new model, Ford is also reviving the Taurus SHO, a high output performance sedan that was sold from 1989 to 1999. That sedan helped to bolster the Taurus' image, with Ford claiming that more than 100,000 units of the SHO was during its lifespan. Thanks to enthusiast demand, the SHO is coming back for 2010, a sleek, fast car powered by Ford's new 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.
EcoBoost gives Taurus all of the power of a V8 while preserving V6 fuel economy. Ford estimates that the engine will produce 365 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 350 lbs.-fit of torque at 3500 rpm, giving the sedan power not previously realized in a Taurus model.
"The new Taurus SHO delivers on the authentic sleeper sedan formula but adds all-new luxury-appointments, convenience features and technologies to an unsurpassed balance of power and fuel economy," said Mark Fields, Ford's president of The Americas. "This new sport derivative answers enthusiasts' calls for a premium Ford flagship sedan with even more attitude."
The 2010 Taurus SHO driveline combines a high-capacity six-speed 6F55 SelectShift transmission with a leading edge torque-sensing All-Wheel Drive System. These components work together to deliver plentiful traction when putting EcoBoost power on the road. The six-speed transmission offers a wide array of gears to enable strong acceleration, yet comfortable high-speed cruising, through a 2.77 to 1 final drive ratio.
"Taurus SHO was always a stealth high-performance car," said Earl Lucas, exterior design manager. "The new SHO builds on the expressive design of the 2010 Taurus, adding subtle cues that set it apart."
Pricing for the SHO will start at $37,995 which will include destination fees.
